Text mosaic
Choose an image to begin.
Select the text manually
Copy the selection with your keyboard or touch menu. You can paste it into a text editor and save it there if downloads are unavailable.
Choose a strong silhouette
A simple image with clear light and dark areas works better than tiny details. The tool samples brightness and chooses a character for each cell. Transparent pixels are treated as white. The row count is adjusted for the typical proportions of monospace text characters.
More columns preserve detail but create a wider result. Review the text at the width where you plan to use it. This is a text approximation of your image; it does not preserve color, animation or embedded metadata.
Get a clearer text mosaic from your image
- Choose a cropped image with a strong light-and-dark outline. A simple silhouette or close-up usually produces a clearer result than a busy scene with small details.
- Start near 70 columns. Increase the width for detail or reduce it for a compact result. Compare the detailed, simple and binary palettes to see which preserves the subject.
- Try inversion when light and dark areas look reversed on the destination background. Review the whole mosaic before copying. If downloading is unavailable, expand the manual-selection section and save its text in your own editor.
Frequently asked questions
Does the image leave my device?
The application reads the selected file in your browser and does not upload it for conversion. Ordinary page requests still go to the hosting infrastructure. Do not confuse local conversion with an anonymous browsing service.
Which image files can I use?
This version accepts PNG, JPEG and WebP up to 10 MB and 20 million pixels. A file must also be decodable by your browser. Resize or export a troublesome image before trying it again.
Why does my subject look stretched?
Text characters are not square. The tool adjusts the row count for a typical monospace character shape, but your chosen display font can have different proportions. Compare the mosaic in the actual destination.
Does the result keep color or transparency?
The converter uses brightness and treats transparent pixels as white. It produces plain text, so the result does not preserve image colors, animation or editable image layers.
