Fix ASCII art that loses its shape

Diagnose broken line breaks, uneven columns and weak contrast in text banners and image mosaics.

Check whether the output is text or an image

An ASCII banner or mosaic consists of characters arranged in rows. Its shape depends on those rows retaining their spacing and on the font displaying predictable character widths. A screenshot freezes the appearance as pixels, but the copied ASCII output remains text. Decide which form your destination supports before spending time adjusting the drawing.

Start with a monospace display

In a proportional font, a dot and a wide letter can take different amounts of horizontal space. A monospace display gives each character cell a consistent width. Paste a short banner into a text editor configured that way and compare it with the preview. If it looks correct there, the destination’s font or formatting is likely affecting its appearance.

Find the first broken row

Compare where the lines end. A narrow message box may wrap a long row into two lines, shifting everything below it. Shorten a text banner or split its input across separate lines. For an image mosaic, reduce the column setting. If spaces disappear rather than wrap, the destination may collapse whitespace; choose a field or formatting mode that preserves it.

Improve an image mosaic before increasing detail

A busy photograph can turn into an unrecognizable patch of characters. Crop to a stronger subject and compare the simple palette with the detailed one. More columns can reveal edges but also make the result wider. Invert the brightness mapping when the destination background changes the balance of light and dark. Transparency is treated as white by this converter.

Save a portable original

Download a TXT file or select and copy the manual text output into your own editor. Keep the unwrapped original before experimenting in another app. If the final destination cannot preserve a text grid, publish a checked image and include a short description of its subject. Do not make someone decipher hundreds of spoken symbols to understand the message.

Frequently asked questions

Will mathematical monospace letters fix the drawing?

No. Keep ASCII art made of ordinary characters and use a monospace display font. Replacing the characters with decorative look-alikes changes the content.

Why does the image look too tall?

Character cells are usually taller than they are wide. The converter applies an approximate correction, but the final font may have different proportions.

Can I make the output responsive?

Plain-text rows do not automatically rearrange like an image. Use fewer columns for a small destination or allow a dedicated scroll area when you control the page.
